Greece's cloud contract draws criticism as gov.gr platform expands

Former Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras, through his institute, accuses the Greek government of a cloud procurement process that lacks genuine competition. The analysis says the contract for public computing services could cost up to €235.5 million, limits bidders through technical and financial criteria, and appears pre‑selected, raising concerns of a pre‑determined award.

At the same time, the government is rolling out a major upgrade of the gov.gr portal, adding personalized citizen and business profiles, a secure "gov.gr Messenger" channel for official notifications, and single‑sign‑on via Taxisnet. The new system will initially cover popular services such as digital certificates and tax statements, later extending to all 2,268 services, and includes anti‑phishing measures and a citizen rating feature.
