Greece’s electricity tariffs shift toward blue plans as new light‑blue option looms
In the Greek retail electricity market, the majority of households—about 3.23 million consumers or 54 percent—remain on variable green tariffs. These tariffs are preferred by consumers who do not track price changes or avoid long‑term contracts.
Fixed‑price blue tariffs are gaining ground, rising from roughly 23 percent at the start of 2025 to nearly 31 percent today. Blue plans lock the kilowatt‑hour price for the contract term, offering cost predictability but typically imposing an early‑termination fee that declines as the contract ends. A new “light‑blue” tariff category is expected to be defined by a regulator at the end of the month; it will combine a fixed charge with tiered pricing and greater flexibility, differing from classic blue tariffs by allowing varied rates for different consumption levels.
