Greece's Iconic Landscapes Featured in International Films and Lake Plastira Road

Greece's diverse scenery has long attracted foreign film productions. Ten notable movies shot in the country include Mamma Mia, Zorba the Greek, The Man Who Loved Women, and others, highlighting locations such as the Aegean coast, the Acropolis, Meteora, the island of Skopelos and the Pelion peninsula.

In central Greece, the artificial Lake Plastira is crossed by a unique road that runs atop its dam. Constructed in 1959, the concrete double‑curved dam measures about 220 m in length and 83 m in height and supports irrigation, hydro‑electric power generation and flood protection. The low‑speed road also serves pedestrians and provides access to wooden kiosks, viewpoints, a wooden observatory, and water‑sport facilities such as kayaking and paddle‑boarding.
