Greece's Independent Authority for Public Revenue digitizes Binding Origin Information

The Independent Authority for Public Revenue (AADE) has modernized the regulatory framework for issuing Binding Origin Information (BOI) through a decision by Governor Giorgos Pitsilis. This move aims to enhance legal certainty, facilitate international trade, and ensure more efficient application of rules regarding the origin of goods.

Binding Origin Information serves as a critical tool for companies engaged in international trade by providing advance certainty regarding the preferential or non-preferential origin of specific products. These decisions are binding for both the recipient and the customs authorities of all European Union member states for a period of three years.

Under the new digital process, applications for BOI must be submitted via the myAADE digital portal. The decision also defines the competent customs authorities responsible for receiving, evaluating, and issuing decisions, while establishing specific procedures and time limits to ensure faster and more transparent processing.
