Greece's August Full Moon Celebration Opens 126 Heritage Sites
On Friday, 28 August 2026, Greece’s Ministry of Culture will open 126 archaeological sites, monuments and museums across the country for free public visits under the August full moon. The programme, now in its 27th year, runs from 26 to 30 August and includes 61 venues hosting special cultural events—concerts, theatrical performances, dance, exhibitions and guided tours—while an additional 65 locations remain open without programming between roughly 19:30 and midnight.
The event is coordinated by the Ministry’s General Directorate of Antiquities and Cultural Heritage together with the General Directorate of Restoration, Museums and Technical Works and regional and local authorities. Organisers describe the night as an opportunity to experience the “magic” of Greece’s heritage illuminated by the brightest moon of the year.
