Greece's Niki Kerameos presents professional insurance overhaul

Greek Minister of Labour and Social Security Niki Kerameos announced a draft law aimed at overhauling the country’s professional insurance system. The proposal, presented together with Deputy Minister Anna Efthymiou and General Secretary Konstantinos Tsagaropoulos, targets three main pillars:

1. **Flexibility and simplification** – introduction of Open Professional Insurance Funds that will be licensed by the Bank of Greece to allow faster, more transparent entry for small firms and freelancers. 2. **Enhanced attractiveness** – tax‑incentive reforms, removal of penalties for late‑age enrolment, provision of health programmes, and creation of a new group pension product (OAPES) issued by insurers. 3. **Stronger protection** – full portability of accrued rights when workers change jobs or professional status.

Kerameos said, “We are creating a more modern and reliable complementary insurance framework, supporting workers, businesses and the national economy by boosting household savings and generating new jobs in the financial sector.” The bill seeks to make professional insurance more accessible, competitive and protective for both employees and employers.
