Greek Health Minister Adonis Georgiadis expands home oncology program and upgrades Patras hospitals
Health Minister Adonis Georgiadis marked the three‑year anniversary of the ΟΙΚΟΘΕΝ home‑care programme, a pioneering service that delivers hospital‑level oncology treatment to patients’ homes. Launched on 1 June 2023 at the General Anti‑Cancer Hospital “St. Sabbas”, the programme now operates in hospitals in Athens, Piraeus, Thessaloniki, Alexandroupoli and others, reaching near‑100 % patient satisfaction. A digital platform lets patients record vital signs, communicate with care teams and schedule appointments, while the collaboration with the Hellenic Red Cross under the “NOSI‑Hospital at Home” scheme provides daily professional visits.
In the same period, Georgiadis inspected ongoing works at three Patras hospitals. At the “Karamanliano” Children’s Hospital, renovation of surgical rooms and repairs after a fire were completed and further upgrades are scheduled. At the General Hospital “St. Andrew”, works on a new pharmacy and material store are to finish by October. At the northern‑sector health centre, a new MRI, digital mammography and other equipment are being installed, with inauguration expected in September. The minister also inaugurated Vianex’s new Research and Innovation Centre in Patras, describing it as a major step for Greece’s pharmaceutical industry.
Georgiadis emphasised the government’s commitment, stating, “We are very proud of ΟΙΚΟΘΕΝ and will continue to bring care closer to patients,” and adding, “The Vianex centre is not just another investment; it is a milestone for Greek pharma on the global stage.”
