Greek OPEKA revises June 2026 rent allowance for seniors

The Greek Social Insurance Institute (OPEKA) will alter the special rent allowance paid to pensioners for June 2026. Up to €362 will be granted on 30 June 2026 to citizens over 67 who rent their primary home and meet approval criteria. The change is linked to the pilot operation of the National Registry of Benefits and Enhancements that starts on 1 June 2026, intended to increase transparency and prevent duplicate payments.

Beneficiaries will be cross‑checked against other state subsidies. If a person receives both the special rent allowance and the standard housing benefit, one of them will be stopped. A similar check will apply when the rent allowance overlaps with disability benefits. Payments are made directly to bank accounts, not via prepaid cards. The allowance covers the full rent amount when it is below €362; for higher rents the payment is capped at €362.
