Greek Actor Dimitris Piatas Marks 50 Years in Theatre, Calls Art a Form of Resistance

Actor Dimitris Piatas celebrated five decades of continuous work in Greek theatre, noting his participation in the play “I Will Tell You”. In interviews, he described art as a tool of resistance against societal conformity and authority, rejecting the acceptance of “normalised” injustices.

Piatas emphasized that he “is not a doctrinarian nor a cleric”, positioning himself as a comic performer who follows the ancient role of the jester, a figure who could speak truth to power in feudal courts. He reaffirmed his commitment to quality theatre and to serving his audience, while reflecting on the changes the last fifty years have brought to the profession.
