Greek aesthetic associations seek distinction between cosmetology and medical practice
Four major regional associations of aesthetic professionals and cosmetologists in Greece have issued a joint statement regarding the regulatory framework of their industry. The associations support official inspections and the protection of public health but oppose what they describe as the indiscriminate targeting of legitimate professionals.
The statement follows public debate concerning the legality of certain aesthetic service spaces and procedures that may fall under the scope of medical practice. The groups are calling for a clear distinction between the legal professional activities of a qualified aesthetician—who holds a four-year university degree and proper licensing from Regional Public Health Directorates—and the illegal performance of medical procedures by unlicensed individuals.
The associations emphasize that legitimate 'Aesthetic Laboratories' and 'Aesthetic Centers' operate within a strictly regulated institutional framework and urge authorities to avoid creating the impression that licensed professionals pose a risk to public health.
