Greek agricultural conferences focus on sustainability and genetic innovation

Recent agricultural conferences in Greece have focused on advancing sustainability and innovation within the sector. In Heraklion, Crete, the ‘Science of Olive Oil’ conference addressed quality and sustainability in the olive oil value chain. EUROCERT participated as a sponsor, highlighting the necessity of moving from general sustainability claims to data-driven approaches. Key topics included measuring carbon footprints and utilizing international standards such as ISO 14064-1, ISO 14067, Life Cycle Assessment (LCA), and Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs) to verify environmental performance.

In Serres, the 20th Panhellenic Congress of the Greek Scientific Society of Plant Genetic Improvement is scheduled for October 7–9, 2026. Titled ‘The Role of Plant Genetic Improvement in Innovation, Resilience, and Sustainable Development of Agriculture,’ the event will explore plant genetic resources, climate change resilience, and genomic technologies. The program features experts discussing molecular breeding, food security, and sustainable agricultural practices.
