Greek agricultural policy faces Land Registry hurdles and CAP planning

Greek MP Lefteris Avgenakis has submitted an urgent inquiry to the Minister of Rural Development and Food, Margaritis Schoinas, regarding difficulties faced by farmers during the 2026 Single Application for Support (EAE). The issue primarily concerns discrepancies between declared agricultural plots and Land Registry data, a problem particularly prevalent in Crete due to ongoing boundary corrections and ownership disputes.

While recent adjustments allow for a 55% minimum geospatial overlap and reasoned declarations when owners cannot be identified, Avgenakis argues these measures do not resolve all cases. He emphasizes that pending registry corrections or geometric adjustments should not automatically prevent farmers from submitting applications if they can prove actual land use and possession.

In a related development, Minister Schoinas is scheduled to visit Heraklion on October 16 to participate in the 5th session of the National Dialogue for the new Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) 2028-2034. This dialogue, held in cooperation with the Region of Crete, aims to shape Greece’s national proposal and secure necessary resources for the primary sector during the upcoming multi-annual programming period.
