Greek agricultural representatives meet with Minister of Rural Development
Representatives from P.O.G.E.D.Y. and various primary associations met with the Minister of Rural Development and Food on September 22, 2026, to discuss several labor and structural issues.
P.O.G.E.D.Y. raised concerns regarding the compensation for geotechnical public employees performing official inspections outside regular working hours, including holidays and weekends. They requested a review of compensation levels and the establishment of a unified, objective system for inspection allowances based on the nature and frequency of the work. Additionally, they called for the signing of a Special Collective Labor Agreement to regulate employment terms and benefits.
Other associations raised specific sectoral concerns:
• The Panhellenic Union of Public Veterinarians addressed the understaffing of veterinary services and the need for a dedicated structure within the Ministry to manage animal mortality. They also expressed opposition to legislative proposals that would involve the military in managing epizootic outbreaks, such as foot-and-mouth disease.
• The Panhellenic Association of Public Ichthyologists emphasized the necessity of staffing fisheries services at both central and regional levels.
