Greece reports strong tourism and industrial growth amid energy price shifts

Greece is experiencing significant economic shifts across its tourism, industrial, and energy sectors. Tourism remains a major driver, with over 20 million visitors recorded in the first seven months of 2026, an 8.6% increase from the previous year. Despite a slight dip in arrivals during July, tourism receipts rose by 12% to approximately 13.5 billion euros, driven by higher spending from international travelers, particularly from the UK and Italy.

In the industrial sector, the business cycle saw a 16.4% increase in July 2026, largely fueled by a 25.7% rise in external market demand. The energy sector contributed significantly to this growth, recording a 44.2% jump. However, energy costs remain a challenge; wholesale electricity prices hit a 2026 peak of 211.76 euros per megawatt-hour on September 22, 2026.

In the aviation industry, AEGEAN has been recognized by Skytrax as the Best Regional Airline in Europe for the 15th consecutive year. Meanwhile, Greek airports are on track for record-breaking passenger traffic, with expectations to exceed 60 million passengers in the first eight months of the year.
