Greek and Macedonian Ministers Meet US Ambassador on Migration Cooperation
North Macedonia’s interior minister Panche Toskovski told participants at a high‑level migration dialogue in Skopje that effective migration management requires continual investment in personnel, modernised border infrastructure and close cooperation with neighbouring states and EU agencies. He highlighted the need for Western Balkan countries to be fully involved in the EU’s new Migration and Asylum Pact, stressing joint legislative alignment, information exchange and shared operational support.
Greece’s migration minister Thanos Plevris met US ambassador to Greece Kimberly Guilfoyle to review recent drops in illegal‑migration flows and to outline Greece’s stricter legislative framework. He discussed challenges in applying the EU pact, combating smuggling networks and strengthening returns, while affirming heightened Greece‑US cooperation on border protection and the exchange of best practices.
Both meetings underscore a broader regional push for coordinated migration policies, tighter border security and joint implementation of EU migration reforms across the Balkans and with the United States.
