Greek authorities conduct large‑scale livestock registry inspection in Zontiana
A massive inspection operation began on Wednesday in the Zontiana region of Greece, targeting roughly 178 livestock registries. Twenty‑eight inspection teams (56 inspectors) traveled from Athens and were accompanied by nearly 200 police officers from across Crete to ensure the checks proceeded smoothly.
During the first eight‑hour day, about 70 registries were examined. The operation, described as unprecedented for Zontiana, is expected to continue through Saturday. Residents staged protests, with some refusing inspection and demanding the police leave, while other farmers cooperated with the authorities.
