Greek banks prepare for elections and pension fund market growth
Greek banks are preparing for significant shifts in both the political and financial landscapes. As the country enters a prolonged pre-election period, banking executives are bracing for politically sensitive questions regarding the political climate and potential coalition governments during upcoming investor road shows in London organized by Bank of America and Citi.
Simultaneously, a new market for professional pension funds is emerging in Greece. This sector, which could see assets grow from approximately 620 million euros to 3 billion euros over the next five years, is attracting major systemic banks. The four main banks—Piraeus, Eurobank, Alpha Bank, and National Bank of Greece—have all established professional funds to tap into this growing long-term savings reservoir. Projections suggest the number of insured individuals could rise from roughly 215,000 to 800,000, representing a significant expansion of the second pillar of the Greek insurance landscape.
