Greek Bar Associations demand consultation on private law schools

The Coordinating Committee of the Plenary of the Presidents of the Bar Associations of Greece has called for comprehensive planning and substantive consultation with the academic and legal communities regarding the establishment and operation of private law schools.

Following decisions by the Council of State, the Committee emphasized that ensuring the quality of legal studies is a fundamental obligation of the State, directly linked to the functioning of justice and the rule of law. They asserted that adequate infrastructure, high-caliber teaching staff, and complete curricula are non-negotiable requirements for these institutions.

The Committee also expressed formal protest regarding its exclusion from the evaluation process for study programs when certain entities resubmitted applications for certification. A letter of protest was sent to the President of the National Authority for Higher Education on June 26, 2026, criticizing the lack of transparency and the perceived haste with which the State has handled this significant issue.
