Greek Bar Associations demand compliance on private law schools
Greek bar associations are demanding strict compliance with recent Council of State decisions regarding the operation of non-state universities, specifically focusing on private law schools. The Coordinating Committee of the Presidents of the Bar Associations of Greece has called for the immediate and unwavering implementation of these rulings to ensure transparency, academic quality, and impartiality in the licensing process.
Key demands from the legal community include the establishment of a maximum annual cap on student admissions for all private law schools. They also emphasize that operating conditions must meet high standards for physical infrastructure, faculty prestige, and modern curricula.
Furthermore, the Athens Bar Association (DSA) has announced it will pursue judicial action to annul specific acts or omissions related to the licensing and operation of these institutions. This legal challenge follows Council of State rulings that canceled certain licenses and study program certifications for foreign university branches, raising serious questions about the regulatory framework of the National Authority for Higher Education (ETHAAE).
