Greek businesses report high profits in cremation and shipping sectors
Greek businesses are seeing significant financial gains in specialized sectors. The country's only crematorium, operated by 'Υπηρεσίες Αποτέφρωσης Νεκρών Α. Ε' (CREM Services) in Ritkona, reported record turnover of approximately 5 million euros, a 9.76% increase from 2024. The company reported pre-tax profits of 2.71 million euros for 2025 and maintains high profitability through core services and the sale of memorial items.
In the maritime sector, Greek shipowners are capitalizing on soaring prices for secondhand tankers. High freight rates and limited availability of modern vessels have driven up the value of older tonnage. Notable transactions include Harris Vafias's sale of two Suezmax tankers for approximately 107 million dollars, with one vessel selling for nearly double its 2022 acquisition price. Similarly, Tsakos Energy Navigation confirmed the sale of two 20-year-old Suezmax tankers for over 100 million dollars.
