Greek car market posts strong sales surge in first half of 2026
The Greek passenger‑car market registered 83,970 new registrations from January to June 2026, a 7.4% increase over the same period a year earlier. June alone saw 18,670 registrations, up 27.5% and marking the best monthly performance since early 2010.
Hybrid models remained the dominant choice, accounting for 56.6% of all new cars – up from about 48% a year earlier – and reaching 55.2% of June sales, well above the 37.8% EU average. Pure‑electric vehicles recorded roughly 5,300 registrations in the half‑year, a 24% rise, with a 6.3% market share that climbed to 7.2% in June.
Overall, 97,261 new cars were registered from January through July, a 6% year‑on‑year gain, and July sales closed near 13,300 units. Toyota retained its lead position, while Chinese manufacturers continued to expand their market presence. Industry participants are optimistic about the September‑December period, traditionally the most significant sales window of the year.
