Greek Chalkida Bypass construction moves forward

Minister of Infrastructure and Transport Christos Dimas inspected the Chalkida Bypass construction site on the day Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis visited Euboea. The project, co‑funded by the EU Cohesion Fund under the 2021‑2027 ESFA programme, comprises the Chalkida Bypass, the Psachna Bypass and the connecting North‑South Euboea artery, totaling about 27 km. Work currently focuses on earthworks, technical installations and excavation for the Vathrovouni tunnel.

Mayor Elena Vaka described the Chalkida Bypass as the most important infrastructure project for the municipality of Chalkida and the island, saying it will significantly relieve traffic congestion and improve access for residents and visitors. She also noted that the project's success depends on completing the full four‑lane road network, and expressed optimism that the nearby Basilikos Bypass will follow after the Chalkida section is finished.
