Greek cinema icons Thanos Leivaditis and classic star couples remembered

Thanos Leivaditis (1934‑2005) was a prominent Greek actor who began studying painting before turning to drama. He graduated from the National Theatre Drama School in 1959, performed at the National Theatre until 1972, and took leading roles in works by Sophocles, Shakespeare and Euripides. He appeared in more than twenty films, wrote around thirty screenplays, and took part in international festivals such as Paris 1962 and London 1966.

The golden age of Greek cinema was also marked by highly publicised romantic relationships that captured public attention. Notable couples included Aliki Vougiouklaki and Dimitris Papamichail, who married in 1965 and divorced in 1974, and Zoe Laskari and Tolis Voskopolous, a celebrated partnership of the 1970s. Other high‑profile pairings involved Jenny Karezi with journalist Zacho Hatzifotiou and later Kostas Kazakos, as well as Maro Kontou’s marriages, all of which were widely covered in the press.
