Greek Coast Guard receives 44 new vehicles to boost security

The Greek Coast Guard (Limeniko Soma) took delivery of 44 new vehicles, which will be allocated to regional coast guard units across the country. The procurement, costing about €1.8 million, was financed by the European Union Regional Development Fund and carried out through competitive tenders managed by the Strategic Contracts Unit of the National Development Fund. Minister of Shipping and Island Policy Vasilis Kikilias said the acquisition is part of the broader AIGIS programme, stressing that “the strengthening of the Coast Guard and the safety of the citizen are at the core of our policy.” He added that AIGIS 2 will later provide ships, drones and other surveillance assets to further modernise maritime security.

The delivery demonstrates rapid implementation of public contracts and aims to improve operational readiness, protect maritime borders and enhance public safety.
