Greek Cohesion Policy 2028‑2034 presented with focus on regional empowerment

Deputy Minister of National Economy and Finance Nikos Papathanasi unveiled the strategic framework for Greece’s Cohesion Policy for the 2028‑2034 programming period. The plan stresses a national development vision that aims to maximise EU funds, simplify administrative procedures and direct investments toward boosting the country’s competitiveness and resilience. It highlights addressing geopolitical pressures, the energy crisis and supply‑chain disruptions while promoting green and digital transitions.

At a consultation forum in the Athens Concert Hall, Peloponnese Governor Dimitris Ptokhos emphasized the need for strong, autonomous regions, saying “Η νέα Πολιτική Συνοχής χρειάζεται ισχυρές Περιφέρειες, αποκέντρωση και εμπιστοσύνη”. He linked the policy to the European “Right to Stay” strategy, arguing that sufficient resources and decentralized decision‑making are essential for young people to live, work and create in their home regions. Both speakers underscored the importance of multi‑level governance and coordinated action between the central government, regions, municipalities and social partners.
