Greek Communist Deputy Koutsoumbas attacks government’s constitutional reform proposals

Dimitris Koutsoumbas, the general secretary of the Communist Party of Greece (KKE), addressed the parliament during the debate on a constitutional revision. He condemned the government’s fast‑track procedures, calling the draft measures “anti‑people” and “anti‑democratic” and arguing they aim to secure “anti‑popular stability.” Koutsoumbas recalled the anniversary of the anti‑dictatorship struggle, warning that many of its demands remain relevant. He linked the proposals to broader “international and internal developments,” citing NATO and EU competition, Greece’s involvement in war planning, a looming economic crisis and the risk of social upheaval. The deputy accused the prime minister and all major parties, including Syriza, PASOK and New Democracy, of supporting a reactionary line and urged the public to form a strong front of resistance against the new sacrifices imposed by the constitutional changes.
