Saint Paraskevi feast observed in Greece and overseas on July 26

The Orthodox feast of Saint Paraskevi (Agia Paraskevi), commemorated on 26 July 2026, was marked by a series of liturgical celebrations across Greece and abroad. In several Greek towns – including Naxos, Crete’s Amblouzou, Komotini, Agri, Agios Paraskevi in Dytiko, Agros and the small village of Monopoli on Kefalonia – large evening services, processions and special prayers were held, often attended by local officials such as mayors, municipal councilors and clergy. The saint, revered as the patron of eyesight, was honored with sermons recalling her martyrdom and miracles.

In the Australian diaspora, the parish of St Albans in Melbourne organised a major festive liturgy. Archbishop Makarios of Australia led the service, joined by local bishops and clergy, and used the occasion to pray for a united Cyprus. Similar commemorations took place in the Netherlands and Germany, where churches highlighted the saint’s intercessory role.

Bulgarian media also noted the calendar name‑day for those named Paraskewa (Параскéва), linking the date to the same saint. Across the regions, the feast combined religious devotion with community gatherings, reinforcing the cultural significance of Saint Paraskevi.
