Greek Court of Audit to rule on pensioner solidarity contribution

A pilot case at the Court of Audit regarding the solidarity contribution for pensioners has been postponed to October 7. The legal challenge, supported by the Greek Ombudsman, seeks to change how the contribution is calculated.

Currently, the contribution is applied to the total pension amount. The proposed change would exempt pensions up to €1,400 and ensure that the deduction is only applied to the portion of the pension that exceeds the €1,471 gross threshold.

The General Rapporteur of the Court of Audit has issued a positive recommendation favoring this change. If implemented, the reform could increase the net monthly pensions for hundreds of thousands of retirees, with an estimated fiscal impact of approximately €888 million for 2026.
