Greek Court Resumes Tempi Rail Accident Trial on June 9

On 9 June, the three‑judge Criminal Court of Larissa reconvened to continue the trial over the February 2023 Tempi railway disaster. The hearing focused on the prosecutor’s proposal to accept statements from lawyers’ associations concerning the offence of endangering transport safety, while rejecting statements from the Greek government and the Public Service Union. Representatives of victims’ families, members of the Bar Association, and a government legal adviser also presented their positions. The government’s representative emphasized a positive contribution to “clarifying the case and restoring justice.” The next session will continue hearing remarks from the victims’ relatives, including Zoi Konstantopoulou.

The trial follows earlier hearings that examined alleged negligence by three station managers and the former head of the railway traffic supervision department responsible for the night‑time shift on 28 February 2023.
