Greek court rules in favor of journalists Revi and Kurdis against SKAI

The Athens Single-Member Court of First Instance has ruled in favor of journalists Evangelia Revi and Giorgos Kurdis in their legal dispute against the SKAI television station. The court declared the dismissal of Kurdis invalid and found the station's decision to downgrade the duo's professional roles illegal.

The ruling addressed the station's attempt to replace the journalists' roles as central presenters of the program ‘Opou Yparxei Ellada’ with actor Giannis Tsimitselis, who was technically labeled a ‘flow coordinator.’ The court determined that Tsimitselis was effectively performing the duties of a presenter without the required journalistic qualifications, thereby undermining the contractual rights of Revi and Kurdis.

Furthermore, the court highlighted serious ethical and legal violations, including discrimination against Revi due to her pregnancy and the illegal leak of her sensitive personal health data. The decision serves as a significant precedent regarding the protection of professional journalistic status against replacement by non-journalists.
