Eleni Argyríou transferred to Greece for Marfin bank arson case

Eleni Argyríou, a 46‑year‑old Greek woman, was arrested by British authorities in Brighton on 13 July after a Greek arrest warrant was issued for her role in the May 2010 arson of the Marfin Bank branch on Stadiou Street, which killed three employees. She appeared before the Westminster Magistrates’ Court, signed a binding letter confirming her consent to be extradited to Greece, and has remained in UK custody awaiting transfer.

A team of the Hellenic Police travelled to London to accompany her. The extradition flight is scheduled for Thursday 6 August, with her arrival in Athens expected that night. On Friday she will be taken to the Athens Prosecutor’s Office for formal hand‑over and then to the investigating magistrate for her statement. The two other suspects, both 42‑year‑old men, have already been ordered to remain in pre‑trial detention in Nafplio and Malandrinos prisons.

Defense lawyer Kostas Papadakis has criticised the public release of her personal data, calling it a breach of the presumption of innocence. The investigation continues to rely on video evidence that identified Argyríou by her appearance and hair on the day of the attack.
