Greek Culture Minister Lina Mendoni inspects Epirus heritage sites
Culture Minister Lina Mendoni led a site inspection in the Epirus region, accompanied by senior ministry officials and the regional governor. She visited the restored Temenos Vagyazit, the Roman archaeological site of Ploi‑tonopolis, and the burial mound of Mikri Doxipara‑Zoni, and toured two former schools slated to become agricultural museums.
Mendoni said the Temenos Vagyazit restoration, funded with about €15 million from the Recovery Fund and the Ministry of Culture, is in its final stage and will be handed over at the end of August. Work on the surrounding area will continue in coordination with the local municipality, with the site expected to become a cultural destination by year‑end. She also announced that a tender for a protective roof over the Ploi‑tonopolis site will open in early September, financed by the regional authority, and that the contractor for the Dydymoteicho Castle will be selected by the end of August. Additional restorations of two historic buildings near the Temenos are planned pending municipal agreements.
