Greek Culture Minister meets ambassadors from Egypt and Brazil
Greek Culture Minister Lina Mendoni held working meetings with the ambassadors of Egypt, Mourad Y. Mourad, and Brazil, Laudemar Gonçalves de Aguiar Neto, to strengthen bilateral cultural relations.
During discussions with the Egyptian ambassador, both parties emphasized cooperation regarding cultural heritage and modern culture. A key focus was accelerating the signing of an agreement to combat the illicit trafficking of cultural goods, potentially involving a trilateral framework with Cyprus ahead of a summit in January. The ambassador expressed gratitude for the recent return of six Egyptian idols that had been illegally located in Greece. Additionally, the ministers discussed underwater research in Alexandria by Greek experts and the potential formation of a joint archaeological excavation team. Plans are also underway for joint events in Athens to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the Bibliotheca Alexandrina in 2027.
In the meeting with the Brazilian ambassador, the parties discussed the implementation of a cultural cooperation agreement signed in 2024. The ambassador presented a program of Brazilian cultural events and exchanges scheduled to take place in Greece.
