Greek Defence Minister Nikos Dendias visits Aegean islands and Crete
Greek Defence Minister Nikos Dendias began a two‑day visit to six islands in the Eastern Aegean and the Dodecanese, followed by a stop in Crete. He travelled with the chiefs of the Hellenic Army, Navy and Air Force, as well as senior staff officers.
The delegation inspected military facilities, examined drone deployments and discussed progress on the Defence Ministry’s "Armed Forces 2030" plan. The visits come ahead of the autumn elections, with officials emphasizing the need to maintain security in the region and to address logistical issues at naval bases such as Salamina.
Authorities said the inspections aim to ensure readiness in sensitive areas and to resolve any operational shortcomings before the peak tourist season.
