Greek Defence Ministry launches third phase of military housing scheme
The Ministry of National Defence has started the third phase of its housing programme, opening a public tender for projects valued at more than €60 million. The phase will deliver 181 new homes for military personnel and their families in Orestiada, Soufli, Alexandroupoli, Lesbos, Chios, Syme, Rhodes and Athens.
The first two phases have already completed 462 residences, with another 801 expected in the coming months. Funding for the new phase exceeds €10 million and comes largely from the newly created Defence Real Estate Fund.
Additional social infrastructure is being built: a 24‑apartment housing complex for homeless veterans in Attica, two student‑housing complexes (48 apartments total) for reserve officers in Athens and Thessaloniki, six new nursery centres in Volos, Kalamata, Chania, Athens and Thessaloniki, and extensions of five existing nurseries in Alexandroupoli, Xanthi, Thessaloniki, Volos and Samos. Defence Minister Nikos Dendias said the programme is “a measured, funded reality that is progressing on schedule”.
