Greek defense industry focuses on AI and startup innovation

At the 90th International Defense Exhibition (IDET), discussions have focused on the evolution of the Greek defense industry, emphasizing the integration of artificial intelligence and the importance of skilled human capital. Christian Chatziminas, CEO of THEON and President of EFA Group, noted that Greece possesses a natural advantage due to its highly qualified engineers, though he stressed the need for better organizational structures and investment.

Chatziminas highlighted a significant shift in procurement policy, where the state can now determine Greek added value before a project begins. This allows the government to demand cooperation from foreign suppliers rather than acting solely as a customer.

Simultaneously, the Hellenic Defense Innovation Center (ELKAK) is facilitating connections between Greek defense tech startups and international investors. The center is organizing B2B meetings and information sessions to bridge the gap between research and production, specifically focusing on areas like UAV technology and securing funding through reverse pitching sessions with venture capital firms.
