Greek delivery workers protest for platform labor rights

Delivery workers from the efood Employees Union of Attica have organized a work stoppage and a protest at the Ministry of Labor in Greece. The mobilization, which involves 14 different unions, comes ahead of the December 2 deadline for incorporating the European directive on digital platform workers into Greek law.

The protesters are demanding several key reforms, including a clear legal framework that allows workers to prove their status as employees to secure benefits such as paid leave, bonuses, and accident coverage. They are also calling for algorithmic transparency to understand how orders are distributed and how performance is evaluated.

Additionally, the workers seek to hold platform companies directly responsible for labor practices rather than allowing them to evade liability through subcontractors. Their demands include a guaranteed minimum hourly wage that covers entire shifts regardless of order volume, and the separation of net pay from mileage reimbursements.
