Greek Deputy Finance Minister Markopoulos meets ESEE on SME tax and liquidity reforms
On 17 July, the president of the Greek Federation of Commerce and Entrepreneurship (ESEE), Stávros Kafúnis, met with Deputy Minister of National Economy and Finance Dimitris Markopoulos to discuss a stable, development‑oriented framework for micro‑, small‑ and medium‑size enterprises. The discussion focused on tax and insurance issues affecting SMEs, including the presumptive taxation system, the business tax (τέλος επιτηδεύματος), advance tax payments, non‑wage costs, incentives for tax compliance, and the financial burden of digital transition. Kafúnis said Greek commerce "asks for a fair, stable and development‑oriented tax and social‑security framework that supports investment, employment and sustainability" and presented a detailed plan of interventions. Markopoulos responded that the meeting confirmed a shared goal of a market with greater liquidity and fewer burdens for businesses, emphasizing the need to lower digital‑transition costs and reward compliant firms.
The proposals aim to improve SME competitiveness, boost employment and promote economic growth by reducing fiscal burdens and enhancing cash‑flow flexibility.
