Greek Deputy Minister Dimitris Markopoulos reviews 6% VAT cut for diabetes technologies
The Panhellenic Federation of Associations and Unions of People with Diabetes (POSSDIA) met with Deputy Minister of National Economy and Finance Dimitris Markopoulos to present a proposal for a reduced 6% value‑added tax on all medical‑technological products and consumables used in the monitoring and therapeutic management of diabetes. The proposal covers continuous glucose monitoring systems, insulin pumps and related consumables, citing European legislation that permits member states to apply super‑reduced rates to medical equipment for disabled persons.
Markopoulos expressed willingness to examine the proposal in depth and explore implementation options, including a phased approach. If adopted, the measure would lower costs for hundreds of thousands of Greek diabetics and their families, improve access to modern health‑technology, and potentially reduce serious complications while easing pressure on the national health system.
