Greece's Nikos Papathanasi Launches €48.4 million University Modernisation Plan

Deputy Minister Nikos Papathanasi approved the inclusion of 51 new actions to modernise Greek higher‑education institutions. The programme, covering 25 universities, is funded with €48,471,560 from the European Social Fund’s Human Capital and Social Cohesion 2021‑2027 programme. Implementation will run from November 2024 to July 2026.

The actions establish specialised units: a Student Support Unit to assist students through their studies and facilitate labour‑market entry; a Quality Assurance Unit to improve teaching and research standards; a Strategic Planning Unit for university‑level strategic plans; a Digital Governance Unit to use ICT for simplifying administrative procedures; and a Teaching‑and‑Learning Support Centre to aid academic staff. The overall aim is to upgrade infrastructure, curricula and services so that graduates are better prepared for the job market.
