Greek Deputy PM Paúl Marínakis announces E65 highway opening and Olympus UNESCO listing

Deputy Prime Minister and Government Representative Paúl Marínakis reported the completion of the Central Greece Motorway (E65), a 181‑kilometre road linking Lamia with Grevena and joining the Egnatia Odos. The highway reduces travel times and creates the third north‑south transport axis on the mainland.

He also announced that Mount Olympus has been added to the UNESCO World Heritage List, marking the first such recognition for the iconic mountain range. In the education sector, the Ministry of Education, Religion and Sports will issue seven licences for the establishment and operation of private university branches for the 2026‑2027 academic year.

Regarding energy policy, Marínakis said the government will continue targeted interventions in fuel prices, including diesel subsidies, as long as fiscal space remains, noting the reduction or removal of 83 taxes to ease the burden on consumers.
