PosoKanei.gov.gr tool reduces supermarket costs by nearly 20 euros

A digital tool on the PosoKanei.gov.gr platform, operated by the Hellenic Authority for Consumer Protection and Market Monitoring, can significantly reduce grocery expenses through its ‘Search for Me Cheaper’ function. This feature allows consumers to find more economical alternatives for items on their shopping list within the same supermarket chain, eliminating the need to switch stores.

A test conducted on a basket of 31 essential products—including detergents, pantry staples, and basic foods—demonstrated substantial savings at two major Greek supermarket chains. At Sklavenitis, the initial cost of 103.14 euros was reduced to 83.37 euros, a saving of 19.77 euros (approximately 19.2%). At Masoutis, the cost dropped from 104.38 euros to 83.82 euros, representing a saving of 20.56 euros (approximately 19.7%).

The platform enables users to compare prices across 11 supermarket chains, create lists of up to 50 products, and view at least two months of price history. While the savings observed are specific to the tested basket and current prices, the tool serves as a resource for managing household budgets amidst rising living costs.
