Greek economic climate index rises to 108.3 in June
The Institute of Business Economics (IOBE) reported that Greece's economic climate index increased to 108.3 points in June, up from 107.7 in May. The improvement was driven by stronger expectations in retail trade and services, while industry and construction showed modest declines.
Consumer confidence remained steady compared with the previous month. Greek households expressed slightly more optimism about their finances but sharply reduced intentions to make major purchases. The report also noted that the ongoing Middle‑East conflict continues to be the main source of uncertainty for the European economy, influencing inflation and prompting higher ECB rates. A cease‑fire between the United States and Iran has eased pressure on energy markets, and the smooth resumption of shipping is seen as a crucial factor in tempering trade‑related inflation. Tourism is experiencing only a modest dip during the peak season.
