Western Greece region maximises ESFA funding, declares programme a model

The 5th Monitoring Committee of the Operational Programme “Western Greece 2021‑2027” met on 26 June 2026 in Trikoupis Hall, Mesologgi. Committee members praised the speed and effectiveness of the programme, describing the Western Greece Region as a model for EU‑co‑funded development.

Project commitments have reached €601.7 million (95.76 % of the total budget) and €205.5 million has already been disbursed to the local market. All eleven strategic Integrated Territorial Investments and Sustainable Urban Development actions are fully active with a €129.1 million budget. €9 million has been earmarked for research and innovation, supporting 224 proposals worth €62.17 million.

Key investment areas include €123.8 million for environment and infrastructure (gas network, building upgrades, coastal protection, fire‑prevention equipment), €45 million for road safety and port upgrades, €78 million for health and education facilities, and €159.4 million for social‑cohesion projects such as employment programmes, community centres, social grocery stores and women’s shelters. The region’s Accessible Housing initiative is funded with €14.8 million, covering renovation of private buildings (€9 million) and new public‑building student residences.

Regional Governor Nektarios Farmakis stressed that “the programme is not merely an accounting exercise but translates into critical interventions for the community.”
