Greek Education Minister Sofia Zaharaki Faces Resignation Calls Over Exam Scandal

The opposition party PASOK has demanded the resignation of Education Minister Sofia Zaharaki after an incident that breached the integrity of the 2026 Panhellenic examinations. Two EPAL candidates were examined in the Greek language subject using the same questions that had been given to GEL candidates the previous day, a violation that was concealed for 38 days.

Following media exposure, the Central Examination Committee awarded perfect scores of 100 to the affected candidates. The Ministry of Education responded by ordering an Oath Administrative Examination (EDE) and Deputy Minister Konstantinos Vlassis assured parliamentary questioning that the case would be fully investigated. PASOK accuses the ministry of a cover‑up, arbitrary grading, and calls the silence of the government the “greatest offense” to thousands of students and their families, insisting that resignation is the only appropriate response.
