Greece's Education Ministry launches probe into EPAL exam irregularity

The Greek Ministry of Education, Religious Affairs and Sports has ordered an Administrative Investigation (EDE) into a case involving two EPAL candidates in the 2026 national examinations. The candidates reportedly received New Greek language exam papers that had been used the previous day for General Lyceum (GEL) students, prompting allegations of irregular grading.

The Ministry stressed that the incident is limited to the two EPAL candidates and does not constitute a systemic issue. It affirmed that the inquiry is being conducted with "due seriousness" and that, upon completion, "responsibilities will be assigned to those found at fault, in accordance with the law." The investigation aims to verify whether procedural rules were respected and to safeguard the integrity and equal treatment of all examinees.

Officials indicated that the reuse of an exam topic is not prohibited by current regulations, but the Ministry is focused on maintaining public confidence in the examination system.
