Greek Education Policy Debate and University Enrollment Data Released

In recent years Greece has seen heated debate over education reforms. Proposals such as having substitute teachers work voluntarily in exchange for recruitment points, and a plan by MP Konstantinos Boubas to let parents evaluate teachers via SMS or online questionnaires, sparked strong opposition from teachers' unions and critics. Former education minister Andreas Loverdos and politician Kyriakos Velopoulos also made controversial statements about teacher performance and union activity.

Separately, the National Authority for Higher Education (ETHAAE) published detailed statistics for the 2024‑2025 academic year, covering 25 universities and three military academies. The data show numbers of registered, active, admitted students and graduates per institution and programme. The figures reflect the situation before a planned reduction in enrolments that will begin in 2026 after the removal of students who exceeded the maximum enrolment limits at the end of 2025.
