Greek educators support mobile phone and social media bans in schools

A survey of over 340 educators across Greece indicates strong support for banning mobile phones and social media in schools. Conducted by the ‘Live Without Bullying’ initiative in collaboration with the Greek Safer Internet Center (SaferInternet4Kids) of the Foundation for Research and Technology, the study highlights several benefits of the current mobile phone restrictions in Greek schools.

Key findings show that 73.1% of participating teachers observed fewer classroom distractions, while 60.2% noted improvements in discipline and classroom organization. Additionally, 55.9% reported an increase in face-to-face communication among students, and 49.7% observed enhanced student attention or participation during lessons.

Educators also expressed support for upcoming social media restrictions for children, aligned with the European Commission’s ‘EU Kids Act’. While the majority of respondents report that mobile phone bans are largely implemented in their schools, teachers emphasize that restrictions alone are insufficient and require further measures for the responsible use of technology.
