Greek Food Authority Recalls Frozen Halibut and Swordfish Over Excess Mercury

The Greek Food Control Authority (EFEΤ) ordered the immediate withdrawal of two frozen fish products after laboratory analysis detected mercury concentrations above the legal limit. The recalled items are:

- Frozen swordfish (product code “ΞΙΦΙΑΣ ΦΕΤΑ SHRINK 1019”, batch LOT 11126) caught in the Atlantic (FAO 34) and Pacific (FAO 87) oceans, frozen on 05‑02‑2025 and marked for consumption before 05‑02‑2027. - Frozen halibut (product code “ΓΛΑΥΚΟΣ ΦΕΤΑ Α/Δ SHRINK”, batch LOT 07626) sourced from the Pacific Ocean (FAO 87), frozen on 13‑09‑2025 and marked for consumption before 13‑09‑2027.

Both products were packaged by Four Fish IKE using the manufacturer G. Sideris AE (approval code GR 02‑KN‑07) and were distributed through Panos Nikolaidis AE in Ioannina. Samples were examined by the Chemical Service of Epirus and Western Macedonia, part of the State General Laboratory and AADE. The authority classified the batches as “non‑conforming and unsafe” and instructed consumers who have purchased them not to eat them while removal from the market proceeds.
