Greek EFKA to Refund Overpaid Contributions to Thousands of Retirees

The Electronic Social Insurance Agency (e‑EFKA) announced that it will repay amounts withheld beyond the legal ceiling to 6,926 non‑salaried insured persons, including self‑employed professionals, freelancers and farmers. Applications must be submitted electronically by 16 June 2026, after which the agency will reactivate its online platform in June‑early July 2026 to process the refunds.

Refunds will be offset against any outstanding debts to e‑EFKA or the Unified Social Security Fund. If no debts remain, the net amount will be transferred to the beneficiary’s bank account (IBAN). The scheme also covers previously overpaid contributions identified for the 2025 insurance year. Eligibility thresholds are based on the statutory pension cap of €5,362.44 per month for 2026, and the process will be fully digital, requiring Taxisnet credentials and automatic data verification from existing public databases.
